| |
Demi (Demetria) Moore was born on November 11th, 1962 in Roswell,
New Mexico. Her real father was an unemployed gambling addict
who left her mother before she was born. Her childhood was a
tough one and to make matters worse she was born cross-eyed and
underwent two operations to fix the problem.Demi's mother
remarried Danny Guynes. Unfortunately, Guynes didn't add any
stability to the family. He was frequently changing jobs, which
caused the family to move over 30 times during Demi's youth.
Demi grew up dealing with alcoholism, poverty, divorce, poverty
and her step fathers suicide when she was 18. Perhaps her
afflicted childhood fueled her ambitions for fame and fortune. At
16 Demi quite school and moved to Los Angeles where she found
work as a model (modeled in Europe) and worked for a collection
agency. When she was 18 she married Rock musician, Freddy Moore.
The marriage lasted for 4 years. Her break into show biz was on
the Daytime series ''General Hospital'' as Jackie Templeton. She
stayed with the show long enough to get noticed in Hollywood and
was cast in her first significant role as the drug addicted
Jules in ''St. Elmo's Fire''. Her own life mirrored that of her
character as Demi herself was abusing drugs, mostly cocaine, and
alcohol. After director Joel Schumacher threatened to fire her
from the set of ''St. Elmo's Fire'' Demi began to turn her life
around. She attended a two week drug rehab program and returned
to work. She has remained clean and sober ever since.
After ending a three year engagement to fellow actor Emilio
Estevez, Demi met Bruce Willis. After a highly publicized, whirl
wind romance the couple were married in November of 1987. The
couple stayed together for 11 years producing three daughters,
Rumer, Scout and Tallulah. Bruce and Demi divorced in 1998. With
persistence and a flare for publicity stunts, like appearing
nude on the cover of Vanity Fair while she was pregnant, she
secured her place in tinseltown. The 90's brought Moore to the
forefront of the Hollywood A-List with films such as ''Ghost''
(1990), ''Indecent Proposal'' (1993), ''Disclosure'' (1994), ''The
Juror'' (1995), ''Striptease'' (1996), and ''G.I. Jane'' (1997).Demi
Moore is one of the few former Brat Pack members to emerge from
the 80's and 90's stronger and more successful than ever before.
She may have been criticized for her intense ambition, but there
is no doubt that she has been prosperous in her career. She is
now recognized as one of the most powerful and influential women
in Hollywood and she now rakes in over 12 million dollars a
picture. |
